The stages of Blade Runner Fandom

I am sure at least some of us share some of these stages that are somewhat similar to the stages of grief, or other stages of great change in our lives...

1-Bewilderment and even repulsion: many of us didn't know what to think about seeing the movie for the first time, because unlike most Hollywood movies it didn't drag us in and take us for a ride. We had to keep up and look around and try to figure it out ourselves. Many may have just given up this first time and proclaimed it boring. It often took time and many reviews before the bug caught on.
2-Mild acceptance: We may have liked the cool spinners and some central themes enough to give it another chance.
3-Infection: like an "...itch you can never scratch", it starts to get under your skin and you start thinking about it during your daily life and noticing it's resonance to the world around you.
4-Mild obsession: you start to crave Blade Runner information and collectables and things that just remind you of the movie to make it come real around you.
5-Full on Passionate love affair: You crave everything about the movie and find yourself thinking about it all the time. You may even spend way too much money on bootleg versions of the soundtrack and laser disc versions of the film and workprint(and maybe too much time on the internet forums )
6-Transcendence: you start to feel like there is little left about BR to find out, and use the experiences to form new awareness's and interests, that are still related, but at least get you out of the house more (I am not here yet, I am still at #5)

Please feel free to add or make corrections to this because I just typed this up quickly as a fun thought.

1. Heaven forbid that we have to ?think? to decipher the content of a movie.
2. Unlike a cold toilet seat, if you grasped response ?1, you only immersed yourself additionally.
3. It certainly is bizarre when subtle and blatant references to BR are around you. When it surfaces, we (family) immediately remark ?Blade Runner?.
4. Yes, we certainly have collected a lot of ?kipple?.
5. Isn?t the Internet great? With everything at your disposal, you can disregard purchases that are more important.
6. Like you ridleynoir, located on the east-coast limits special events that we wish we could attend. Once again, we are indebted to the Internet.

I don't know. Those stages may not go in order for many people. I adore the movie incredibly, but it's not in my nature to be obsessive (though I have purchased some blade runner material in the past, but nothing of the sort where I'm buying used scripts or even props from the film).

Also, when I first saw Blade Runner...I was taken in immediate because at that point, I was convinced that you could anything on film.

Great observations Ridleynoir!

As I expressed in an older thread, Blade Runner is more than just a movie. Even at this moment...it is having an impact on my life. Beyond transcendence? Maybe more on that later.
